If you want to include multiple mod files with GZDoom, select all of them with the CTRL key pressed and drag and drop all selected files onto the gzdoom.exe file.Drag and drop the Brutal Doom mod file (brutalv20.pk3 or similar) onto the gzdoom.exe file.Navigate to the GZDoom folder in Windows explorer (d:\games\gzdoom in this example).There are several ways to start Brutal Doom with the GZDoom source port. Copy the content of the downloaded zip file to your GZDoom folder, in this example you'll end up with d:\games\gzdoom\brutalv20.pk3.Doom II: copy DOOM2.WAD to the GZDoom folder, you'll end up with d:\games\gzdoom\DOOM2.WAD.Ultimate Doom: copy DOOM.WAD to the GZDoom folder, you'll end up with d:\games\gzdoom\DOOM.WAD.Doom shareware: unfortunately the shareware version of Doom doesn't support Brutal Doom.Copy the content of the downloaded zip file to a folder of choice, for example d:\games\gzdoomĪs with any other source port for games using the Doom engine, you need the Doom game files (WADs) to play the game.Just remember you will need to set any key binding you wish to use in the games options menu. You should now be able to play Brutal Doom.
On the main tab under the IWADs list just click on Doom 2 so it will be selected as the wad you wish to play with.įinally click on the launch button, and now you will see a window show up loading GZDoom with the mods together. Under the main tab look for source port drop down list, and select GZDoom. Now you are almost done, and thus come the easy parts. This will allow you to play brutal doom with the starter pack maps. If you wish to play custom maps like the hell on earth starter pack look for the wad file, and just add it to the External Files list. Note that you can add more then one mod to this list as long as they don't conflict with each other. So in this case look for the brutal doom v20.pk3 file, and add it to the list. You will now get a new search window that will allow you to look for any of the supported mod files you wish to play with.
Now on the main tab and under the External Files list click on the add button. When you are done you can add other main doom engine wads to the list, or go back to the main tab. In this case look for where you have Doom2.wad, and add it to the list. This is the same thing as before with the source ports only this time look for offical doom engine wads. Next click on the add button under the IWADs section. After that just click ok, and now GZDoom is listed in ZDL. The search window will close, and you can now set a name to the source port in the add source port window. Now in the search window find where you have GZDoom.exe, select it, and then click the open button. Click on the add button to get the add source ports window, and then click the browse button. Under the blank listings for source ports you will see the add button. Once in the settings tab you will see two sections Source Ports/Engines, and IWADS. Just extract ZDL into it's own folder, and then run it.Īfter launching ZDL you will need to go to the settings tab.
